Honolulu-based Dev League is a launching a full-time classroom course designed to help amateur coders learn the world of web software development.

The firm is looking to take smart, driven individuals who are motivated to find a job in the software development industry as an entry-level web developer upon completion of the training academy.

The inaugural program has up to 20 classroom slots for interested candidates to join the first cohort starting November 11 and running through February 7, 2014. Students will get in-depth hands on mentorship and training from industry experts to guide them on their path to becoming true front-end web developers. Students will complete the course with over 800 hours of learning and development experience as well as interview techniques.

Dev League will also work with select web development teams in Hawaii and San Francisco Bay Area who are looking to hire entry-level web developers. Typical starting salaries for these roles range from $60,000 to $100,000 per year.

“We are solving a real need in the marketplace by filling the demand for programmers at fast growing software companies and limited pool of qualified web developers,” says Dev League co-founder Russel Cheng.

“Many of Hawaii’s technology workers want to work in web companies yet lack the required experience and skills in modern web development often found at companies such as Facebook, Google, Twitter and funded startups,” Cheng added. “Our goal is to close that gap and help our graduates get those high-paying jobs.”

Anybody who is interested can apply to Dev League at devleague.com/apply. Those who apply by the Priority Application Deadline on October 14 are eligible for early-bird tuition of $8,000. The Final Application Deadline is October 28 with a $10,000 tuition. Two scholarships – including a Women Who Code Scholarship, which is offered to a qualified female applicant, will be awarded.

Jason Sewell and Russel Cheng founded the company in August 2013 and recruited Marc Grabanski, founder of Frontend Masters as the lead instructor. Jason is the curriculum designer and developer who is currently Solutions Architect of Sudokrew and previously served as Senior Programmer/Analyst at Outrigger Hotels & Resorts. Russel is the director of operations who is currently Co-Director of Founder Institute Honolulu chapter and has founded six companies resulting in two successful exits.

Dev League is hosting an information session on Monday, October 7 at Manoa Innovation Center starting at 5:30pm. Sign up to attend: http://devleague.eventbrite.com/.
